DEWEY, Okla. (KOKH) — An Oklahoma teacher is accused of taking to social media and urging support for Donald Trump so that Muslims can be “butchered.”
The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations issued a release Friday urging disciplinary action be taken against Dewey High School teacher Dan Close.
CAIR-Oklahoma shared a screenshot of a June 28 Facebook post from Close stating:
“Another Islam attack. Happy Ramadan to everyone. Death cult. Vote for Clinton if you want to appease the dog pigs. Vote trump if you want them butchered. Happy Ramadan to all infidels.”
Close is listed as a history teacher and head track coach on the school’s website. CAIR-Oklahoma civil rights director Veronica Laizure said the group would like the school to conduct diversity training for educators and support staff.
“We sincerely hope that the Dewey Public School District will not only discipline this individual, but will, more importantly, take steps to rectify this problem by embracing the diversity and cultural competency training offered by CAIR-OK and other local organizations,” Laizure said.
Superintendent of Dewey Public Schools Vince Vincent released the following statement regarding the situation
“We are aware of the story and have addressed it, but with it being a personnel matter there is nothing more that we can discuss.”
Close’s Facebook page was reportedly public before he recently set it to private.
Buzzfeed News initially called attention to Close with a Jan. 5 online article featuring multiple screenshots of posts they say he made in recent years. Within hours of the story’s publication, a public Facebook page was created in support of the Dewey teacher — I support Dan Close.
