Yesterday, the American people chose Donald Trump as the President of the United States. For the next four years, he will represent our country at the highest level for the second time since his first term in 2016-2020.

We know this outcome will have profound impacts on our community. We cannot forget that under Trump’s previous presidency, we experienced a Muslim ban, emboldened and virulent anti-Muslim hate, the appointment of problematic judges to federal courts around the country, and a devastating pandemic that killed hundreds of thousands of Americans. We are committed to empowering our Oklahoma Muslim community and working against the erosion of our hard-won civil rights and against the persecution of our Muslim community here and abroad. We will continue to provide the tools that we need to fight for the world that we and our children deserve.

Whatever your feelings about the presidential election outcome, it’s essential to keep in mind the dozens of down-ballot races in which our community has made a significant impact by voting. We’ll be covering more of these results later this week as we examine some crucial city and state elections that will have a major impact on our lives in the coming years.

Moving forward, our focus remains on empowering our community to be civically engaged and active, from the big federal races to the hyperlocal races in our towns, cities, school districts, and other localities.

The CAIR Oklahoma team will be watching closely to ensure that you are aware of movements at every level of government that may affect the civil rights of Oklahoma Muslims and other marginalized communities in our state.

We will not stop fighting for you, your family, and our beloved Oklahoma community. If at any time you need legal advice, outreach to your community, empowerment for your children and your family, or resources on advocating for the issues nearest to your heart, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,
The CAIR Oklahoma team
