Biography

Congressman Markwayne Mullin was first elected to serve the people of Oklahoma’s Second Congressional District in November 2012.  He is currently serving his fourth term in office.
Mullin and his wife Christie have six children: Jim, Jayce, Andrew, Larra, Ivy, and Lynette.  The Mullin family currently resides in Westville, Oklahoma on the same family farm where Markwayne was raised.

Today, Mullin Plumbing is one of the largest service companies in the region, employing over 150 Oklahomans. The business is only one of several successful companies owned and operated by the Mullin family.  Others include Mullin Environmental, Mullin Plumbing West Division, Mullin Services, Mullin Properties, and Mullin Plumbing New Construction.

In 2010, Mullin completed his education and received his degree in Applied Science in Construction Technology from the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology.

Mullin currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee whose broad jurisdiction includes issues important to rural Oklahoma including energy and environmental policy, health care, commerce, and manufacturing.  He sits on three subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change, the Subcommittee on Health, and the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.  Additionally, Mullin is a member of a number of caucuses, and is a co-chair of the Men’s Health Caucus and of the Regulatory Review Caucus.

During his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Mullin has been a strong voice for business owners across Oklahoma, bringing their perspective into the national debate on many issues that directly impact the business community.  As one of only four Native Americans currently serving in the House, Mullin brings a firsthand knowledge of Native American issues to Washington, D.C.

Each of the committees and caucuses Mullin serves on aims to solve problems facing the constituents of Oklahoma’s Second District.  Mullin is dedicated to serving the people of his district with honesty and integrity, and fights each day to ensure his constituents’ voices are heard in Congress.  A family man grounded by a deep faith and love for his country, Mullin strives to serve the Second District with the same principles in which he leads his life.

Platform Issues

Defense and National Security

The U.S. Constitution is clear that we should have a strong, national defense. Our men and women in the military protect us and our freedoms, allowing America to remain a leader of the free world and a beacon of hope. In order to keep us from falling behind other world powers, and to be prepared for emerging threats, we must continue to make investments in not only the most advanced equipment and technology, but also in the very people that choose to put on the uniform every day.

Economy and Jobs

The private sector is the engine that drives our economy and creates real jobs and opportunity. As a business owner, I know that for many businesses it is a daily struggle just to keep the doors open. I have first-hand experience with the challenges of running businesses in this burdensome regulatory environment.

Education

As the father of five children all enrolled in Oklahoma’s public school system, I firmly believe in local control for our school districts. While in Congress, I have helped pass legislation freeing our state from being forced to adhere to ineffective federal standards like Common Core.

Energy

Since being elected to Congress, I have fought for policies that preserve and grow Oklahoma’s energy jobs and assure our families can afford to keep their lights on. Oklahoma is an energy-rich state and I will make sure our priorities are included in the comprehensive U.S. energy agenda.

Foreign Affairs

As a leader of the free world, many nations look to us during negotiations or times of crisis. Although the president is vested by the Constitution with the main responsibility to conduct foreign affairs on behalf of the American people, Congress should still use the opportunities we have to maintain our diplomatic ties with our allies and ensure that America will always be that “shining city on a hill.”

Health Issues

I believe America should have a health care system that guarantees Oklahomans will have access to healthcare that is not only affordable but is also high quality. I favor reforms that are market-based and patient-centered and reforms that protect small businesses and their employees from interruptions to health insurance coverage and skyrocketing premiums.
